SYNCING SHAPES
Motion Design
It's Gonna be in Sync

Let sound guide you through a journey of shifting shapes and flowing movement.
Project Overview
This project began as a way to familiarize myself with the tools and layout of After Effects. I ended up falling in love with the process more than I expected. Using a six-second snippet of an instrumental song, I created a looping animation where the shapes move in sync with the music. The result is seamless and can be replayed endlessly without feeling out of place. I used Illustrator to create what the assets would look like visually, and then I built everything in After Effects to have better control.

The software used was Adobe Illustrator and After Effects.
The sound used is called Gasp.

Version 1
Inspired by ping pongs with the beat spinning and the vibrations acting like balls bouncing off a confining wall.
Version 2
Simple in design, I wanted something that showed power in basics. Using only circles I wanted to push the fluidity music has.
Version 3
Brick breaker is the closest to how this design came to be. The ball would bounce in a confined area, until I finally would break through only to be trapped again.

Refined Sketch
I wanted to do a mix of version 1 and 2. I liked the idea of having something with more movement over stiff shapes moving around. I also refined my color palette and cleaned up some of the lines.

Vector Sketch
I wanted to dissect both strong points into the design with distinct changes. The beat created a flowing organic shape flooded the entire piece while the vibration caused a rotation that would shape and change on a whim. Each movement would mimic the song in a way that felt natural yet powerful.
